When invited by the Beaux-Arts de Paris (ENSBA) to propose a show, American artist Mark Dion decided to occupy the institution with a labyrinthine exhibition composed of historical works of ENSBA’s collections, works of his own authorship, and pieces by other contemporary artists, including Raphaël Zarka (1977, Montepellier).
Curated by Sarina Basta, the show ExtraNaturel - Voyage initiatique... Un projet de Mark Dion [ExtraNatural – Initiatory journey… A project by Mark Dion] revolves around the theme of the supernatural, and proposes a reinterpretation both of ENSBA’s collections as of the historical building of the Beaux-Arts. Some of the selected works deal with questions related to morphological elements, unusual objects, and hybrid elements – themes that concern Raphaël Zarka’s research.
ExtraNaturel happens from May 18th to July 14th, 2016. For more information, please visit the website of the Beaux-Arts de Paris.
