The exhibition Un art pauvre [A Plain Art], organized by the Centre Pompidou, proposes an analysis of artistic practices linked with the idea of “plainness” in creation from the 1960s onwards. Curated by Frédérique Paul and Bernard Blistène, the event not only includes the visual arts, with the Arte Povera movement, but also the fields of music, design, architecture, theatre, performance, and experimental cinema. The latter includes the screening of Raphaël Zarka’s (Montpellier, 1977) short film Gibellina Vecchia. In this work, the artist meticulously records the monumental artwork Alberto Burri created in the 1980s on the ruins of the Sicilian town of Gibellina, which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1968.
Un art pauvre happens from June 8th to August 29th, 2016. For more information, please visit Centre Pompidou’s website.
