After having his work “O Abuso da História” [The Abuse of History] recently acquired by the Hirshhorn Museum, Héctor Zamora (Mexico City, 1974) participates in the exhibition Masterworks from the Hirshhorn Collection, which exhibits exceptional recent acquisitions alongside iconic works that were part of founding donor Joseph Hirshhorn’s original collection of nearly six thousand works, donated in 1966 as a gift to the nation. 

Featuring more than 75 works in virtually all media, the exhibition includes the museum’s strong holdings of 20^th century masters like Alberto Giacometti and Francis Bacon alongside more recent works by artists, such as Senga Nengudi, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Eduardo Basualdo, and more. The show conveys the ever-evolving nature of the museum’s collection, and seek to draw out new insights in the juxtaposition of old and new. 

Héctor Zamora’s video “O Abuso da História” [The Abuse of History] (2014) depicts a riotously destructive group performance held at São Paulo’s historic Hospital Matarazzo, and is included in a gallery with works by Jannis Kounellis and Ed Ruscha, both of which also address themes of the destruction and preservation of history.
