Throughout her career, Rochelle Costi has developed a consistent investigation into domestic space as a symbolic, social, and political territory. In this series of photographs, Casa de praia [Beach house] (2003), Casa caminhão [Truck house] (2003), and Casa barco [Boat House] (2003), the artist focuses on informal constructions and improvised housing solutions, recording ways of living that escape the normative models of official architecture. Through photography, Rochelle Costi highlights structures marked by precariousness, mobility, and inventiveness, in which reused materials and ingenious adaptations reveal strategies for survival and belonging. This research also problematizes idealized notions of "home" and proposes a reflection on urban inequality, needs that demand constructive imagination, and the ways in which daily life shapes identities and social relations.
