Since the late 1950s, Regina Silveira has played a central role in the evolution of artistic research, opening paths for new approaches to image representation and construction.

Regina Silveira first developed Discurso, from the series Dilatáveis (1981/2022), in the early 1980s as part of her doctoral research, Simulacros (ECA-USP, 1984), which examined questions of representation in art. Each work in the series begins with a photographic image of a human figure, from which the artist projects shadows in exaggerated and distorted forms, subverting traditional principles of perspective. These conceptual and formal procedures have guided her practice ever since.

In Discurso, we see the shadow of a speaker at a lectern, elongated and radically out of proportion. This deliberate manipulation of perspective and shadow produces visually uncanny images that disrupt conventional representational logic and probe the relationship between figure, space, and projection. The Dilatáveis series was a highlight of the 34th Bienal de São Paulo in 2021.
