While Fabiana works essentially with contextual and relational arts, with artworks that are generally activated by the participation of the public, Michel is a photographer and filmmaker, with a production that transits between the documentary and a more formal research in video art. Together, they are known for their installations in photographs and videos, as well as other multimedia works, which construct relationships between cinema and contemporary art. A fundamental factor in their works is the interactivity of the public, which often becomes part of the body of the work itself. Since 1996, the artists have worked together by way of the artist duo FABMIC.

 

Fabiana de Barros earned her degree in arts from FAAP (1983, São Paulo) and from the École Supérieure d’Art Visuel, in Geneva (1991, Switzerland). Michel Favre graduated from the École Supérieure d’Art Visuel, in Geneva (1989, Switzerland). Together or individually, they have participated in variouis film festivals, including the Film Festival of   Obenhausen (1988, Germany), the Mostra Internacional de São Paulo (1999, 2006, 2012), the New York International Film (2012, USA), and the Filme sur I’Art de Montréal festival (2019, Canada). They have held solo shows at important institutions that include the Fundação Iberê Camargo (2018, Porto Alegre), MAC-SP (2010), Sesc Pompeia (2007, São Paulo), and MAMCO – Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain de Genève (2006, Switzerland). They have participated in group shows at venues that most notably include the  Pinacoteca de São Paulo (1984), the 20th, 24th and 25th editions of the Bienal de São Paulo (1989, 1998, 2000), the 8th Bienal de La Habana (2003, Cuba), the 1st Bienal de Canarias (2006, Las Palmas, Spain), and the 7th Bienal do Mercosul (2009, Porto Alegre). Their works figure in important collections including those of the Fundação Bienal de São Paulo, MAC-USP, Masp, AWK Engineering (Switzerland), and the Union Bank of Switzerland (Switzerland).
