Caio Reisewitz’s research centers on photography as its principal medium. His technically refined compositions reveal a particular interest in human action and its social and political effects, whether in natural or architectural spaces. The repertoire of his visual poetics brings the viewer face to face with both human neglect and the visual poetry of these environments.

Urca (2011) and Guanabara III and VII (2012–2026) are part of a research project Caio Reisewitz carried out in Rio de Janeiro, based on landscapes photographed by Marc Ferrez in the 19th century. Urca was made at Praia de Fora, at the foot of Sugarloaf Mountain, while Guanabara was photographed in the early hours of the morning at Praia de Piratininga, in Niterói, overlooking Guanabara Bay. Reisewitz retraced the sites where Ferrez had worked, revisiting these landscapes and seeking to recover their natural exuberance while minimizing traces of human activity. He therefore seeks out spaces that retain as much as possible of their original condition, allowing the landscape to reveal its own force, breadth, and scale. Rio de Janeiro thus emerges as a territory where nature makes its presence felt, revealing a landscape of extraordinary power and beauty.
