Delson Uchôa

In Lua Cheia Baronesa em Flor (2023), Delson Uchôa combines figuration and geometric abstraction in a hybrid painting made with acrylic paint on locally sourced papyrus-fiber matting. The robust papyrus support becomes integral to the work, asserting its material presence and its “native body” as a kind of landscape on which Uchôa develops his investigation of what he calls “Geometria Crioula.” In this painting, geometric forms, references to landscape, and figurative elements converge, fusing different modes of representation and prompting reflection on the intersections of territory, culture, and identity. The artist describes it as a “painting of location,” in which near-square forms are brought into relation with spherical ones to construct a distinctive language that, in his words, evokes a possible “genome of South America.”
