Painted in oil on canvas, the works in Between You and Me, the Sun and the Moon are presented in two sections. The first features abstract paintings, while the second presents works that carry an “additional layer” of meaning, in which Tebet suggests the presence of what he calls “supernatural figures.” More than a formal division, these two sections open onto sensitive fields of perception, poised at the threshold between the visible and the invisible, the abstract and the figurative. Conceiving painting as a space of energetic re-signification, the artist builds surfaces of color that waver between abstract autonomy and the suggestion of latent, unseen beings – an ambiguity that challenges the gaze. In this framing, the “supernatural” does not appear as a theme but as an operation: a perceptual shift that draws the viewer into zones of indeterminacy, where the image takes shape as much through what it reveals as through the projections and repertoires that pass through it.

The organic process behind these paintings reinforces the spontaneity and autonomy of each work. Tebet positions himself as a vector of creation, giving the works their form while drawing out their latent power. He paints quickly, with his whole body engaged, treating the canvas as a field of action where energy, time, and presence are registered.

Painting is the central axis of Tiago Tebet’s inquiry. From a very young age, he has investigated its processes and possibilities for re-signification. His earliest works were already focused on scenes from everyday life and on countercultural worlds such as skateboarding. Combining technical rigor with a sensibility all his own, he has developed a particular interest in experimenting with painterly materials and procedures. Between You and Me, the Sun and the Moon marks a moment of maturity and refinement, characterized by a more distilled visual language. This evolution reveals a growing attention to the behavior of color and to the construction of dreamlike atmospheres. In this recent work, Tebet expands painting as a space of experience, in which the image takes shape less as a representation and more as an event.
