Liliana Porter works with references from popular culture and collective memory, using procedures that border on the fantastic to create works that subvert the conventions of everyday life and of art itself. By creating ambiguous and, at times, controversial situations, which the artist calls “theatrical vignettes,” Porter constructs scenes in which humor and estrangement operate as critical devices. In The copy - with geometric shapes (2020), a tiny figure is at work on the outsized task of filling an enormous blank canvas.
